Every 29.5 days, the moon wanes into the new moon time. What is the significance of this sacred moon time? What meaning does this moon phase hold for us as women?
These are questions we receive often and so we are excited to share with you how to celebrate the new moon time and why this lunar phase is so significant for us as women!
The wisdom of the new moon~
The new moon is the time in the cycle when the sky is black. The moon is not visible and the nights are especially dark. It is during this lunar phase that we as women tend to feel the most introverted and have the least amount of energy of any time during our cycle.
The moon has waned within and we as women feel the same calling; to look within and be still.
Often during the new moon time we feel called to rest, take space for ourselves and do practices that are especially nourishing. Because this is a time of low energy, this is a key time to make space for what we need and honor ourselves. This is also the most important time of the month to offer ourselves self care.
The new moon offers us a loving and healing space every month to release, let go, rest and rejuvenate.
Here are 6 ways to celebrate every new moon time~
1. Release what no longer serves you
With every new moon, you have the space to let go of the things that no longer serve you. Write out everything that feels heavy for you and then throw the paper into the fire. Let the fire transform your old experiences and wounds into new life and light. This is a practice I recommend doing with every new moon.
2. Offer yourself self care
The new moon time is the most important time to offer yourself self care! The possibilities are endless so ask yourself what brings you nourishment and relaxation. For some of us it's receiving a massage, going on a walk in nature or taking a nap in the middle of the day. See a list of self care ideas here
3. Celebrate your need for time alone
Take time to be alone during the new moon, whether it's a couple hours or most of the day. This is our time to rejuvenate and recharge for the coming cycle so taking time to be alone is key. You can sit at your sacred altar, meditate or relax on the couch. Make this your space to relax and refill your cup.
4. Meditate with this sacred lunar phase
Meditating with the new moon time is a deeply nourishing and rejuvenating practice. Whether you want to meditate in silence or listen to a new moon meditation or womb wisdom meditation, find what works for you and carve out 20 minutes or so to meditate.
5. Ground outside with mother earth
Make time to be outside under the new moon energy. Ground your feet on the earth, go for a walk (ideally barefoot) or simply lay outside on the grass. The negative ions from the earth have been shown to heal the body and support cell regeneration so make space to ground and simply be. This could also work as your self care practice!
6. Honor your cycle
If you are bleeding with the new moon time, make this experience sacred by switching from regular pads and tampons to other options that are far more empowering. If you do not bleed with the new moon but desire to, you can learn how to sync your menstrual cycle with the new moon here. Note: There is nothing wrong with bleeding at other times during the month. Some women just prefer to bleed during the new moon time.
May the new moon time each month bring you a healing and sacred space to simply BE.
In lunar gratitude,
Cassandra Wilder
