If you're looking for a new morning routine to implement into your life, this blog post is for you.
The way we begin our days often set the tone for the rest of the day. If we wake up late, rush to eat something, run out the door, get to work and then realize we forgot something we needed, we can see that the day is likely going to continue in this frenzied, chaotic state.
Rather, if we wake up early, have some time for a few intentional moments, eat slowly and then begin our day, we are far more likely to have a balanced, centered day.
Years ago when I worked in the corporate world, I worked at 6AM everyday. Because I struggled to wake up early (and also just didn't want to wake up any earlier than I had to!) I would wake up at 5:30AM. This gave me just enough time to wake up, brush my teeth and walk to work. I would then begin my day at 6AM in the crazy world of security and law enforcement.
It wasn't uncommon for me to leave work at the end of the day in tears or completely drained. To sit in a dark office for 8 hours in highly stressful situations was taking it's toll on me and I didn't know what to do.
Looking back, I think one reason I had such a hard time managing stress in the work place and at home was because I had ZERO morning routine. I didn't have time to sit on a yoga mat and just take a deep breath. My mornings were go-go-go because I didn't think it was necessary to wake up earlier.
If you desire to have a deeper sense of peace and balance throughout your day, I highly recommend implementing sacred morning ritual into your daily practice.
So what is morning ritual?
Morning ritual is anything that grounds you and centers you before you begin your day. We are all going to prefer different ways to ground so likely all of us will have pretty different morning routines. A few wonderful ways to practice morning ritual are below.
Examples of morning ritual ~
-wake up slowly and save 5 things you are grateful for aloud
-make your morning coffee or tea and sit with it outside if possible as you take in the beauty of the world around you
-roll out your yoga mat and stretch for 5-10 minutes
-journal about your goals and intentions for the day
-meditate in bed or at your altar for a few minutes
-drink some hot water with lemon while you observe silence
-sage yourself and spritz yourself with rose water
-oil pull while being intentional with your thoughts
-take a bath with fresh flowers and crystals
-chant your favorite song or mantra
-shower with fresh eucalyptus in the shower to invigorate you
-sit outside on the earth for a few minutes
-rub oil on your body with intention as you practice Ayurveda
-give yourself a breast massage
-sit at your altar and pull an oracle card
-read a chapter in an empowering book
-listen to an inspirational video
-etc.
As you can see, there are SO many options! Did a few call to you? Your morning ritual could last 5 minutes or an hour - it's completely up to you! Even the simple act of drinking your coffee in silence while thinking about the things you are grateful for is just as potent as meditating and chanting.
Find what works for you and see if you can implement it everyday.
Here is an example of what I practice most days when I'm at home ~
-Wake up slowly and say THANK YOU to the Universe for allowing me to be alive and well
-Speak 5 things I am grateful for
-Drink water with lemon
-Sit at my altar and meditate for 10 minutes or so while anointing myself and spraying rose water
-I then will turn my phone off of airplane mode and officially begin my day
